Maddy @ November 18, 2009

There are many nice changes to announce today.
  • First of all we have a new site (you have noticed it already, aren’t you?), which is pretty and conveys our information better.
  • Then there is a screen-cast which shows all the essential features of the TimeGT client.
  • New version of the client is out as well – it is more robust overall and has a number of small feature changes.

Small Improvements:

  • Sync outgoing changes status is more precise.
  • Added grace period for task completion, so task doesn’t disappear instantly once completed.
  • Task info tag editor respects archived tags.
  • Undo works for changes coming over Sync.
  • Unsets “In progress” flag when clicked on Complete.

New version of TimeGT is available for download! There have been many new updates we’d like to share with you.

New tasks have a grace period for filters

In previous versions all task filters were applied immediately. As a result, for some cases newly created or just modified tasks will disappear due to filter restrictions.

To avoid confusion and give user more freedom we added a feature called “grace period” — your tasks will remain in the list for some time so you have plenty of time to react and have a better overview. The grace period is applied to changes in tasks, projects, timings and tags.

Added two more properties: Completed (for completing tasks) and Urgent.

Urgent combined with already-existing “Important” property gives a nice combination to decide about your next actions without setting any date or time. Simply flag all tasks as important/unimportant and urgent/not urgent and you’ll have 4 sets of tasks — and you better start with urgent and important first!
Two new columns

Improved Log In process

Log in process is refactored for better stability while using at unreliable networks.

Added more sorting option

We added special sorting options to the View menu. There are five available sorting options, most notable is sorting by Created Date. Please note that sort by created date can be applied only from this menu item (there is no such column in task list).

Other improvements

  • In addition to incoming changes we now also show outgoing changes
  • Improvements to shortcut for creating New tasks. Tasks are now created through quick insert field (previously, it was also possible to create them in the table).
  • Task notes size limits removed.
  • Fixed Linux launch scripts so they can be executed from anywhere.
    •

TimeGT Notes and Tasks Manager Launched!

TimeGT is now launched and available for public use! Please download and have fun!

More info about features and knowledge base is still in progress so to the best way is to learn by yourself and ask your friends and community.

For a brief intro: TimeGT is built to make your notes and tasks handling much easier and more accessible.

TimeGT is far from being fully final and polished. And it will never be. But we are working very hard together with the users making sure our simple promises are kept!

TimeGT thrives to make a strong paradigm shift when it comes to managing and accessing your data. More specifically:

Accessibility

All user changes to the data are automatically sent to the server as journal entries for backup and remote access purposes.

If you have multiple clients open then changes will appear at other clients immediately. It is up to you if you want to load those incoming changes right away or later.

You can always make your local backups that are stored as XML files so you can process them any way you want.

Currently we support Windows, Linux and Mac clients. Later this can be moved also to web and mobile. But we will never weaken the security to make the data accessible at the server.

Import all your Remember The Milk tasks into TimeGT to see how it works (from File-Import-RTM).

Security

Whenever your information leaves your computer it will be encrypted with strong RSA 512. Only you have access to the private-public keypair.

Your password is never sent to the server, only SHA 512 hash made from username, password and random salt combination will be used for validating at the server.

Currently for user convenience public-private keypair is stored as JKS keystore in server protected with your password. This can be later changed to improve security but then user needs to start carrying his own key file instead of password.

Next Goals

Support sharing tasks between users (while keeping information securely encrypted).

Support connectors for accessing 3rd party information (GMail, Google calendar, JIRA, Trac, Bugzilla etc)

Support more clients for accessing and/or entering new tasks (Web, Symbian, Android, iPhone)

Have fun and feel free to post your feedback and comments right here to this post!
